    Freemasonsry
    Freemasonry & Women

Freemasonry can be a society that accepts members from all races, creeds, religions, and social status. The teachings are fundamentally in line with the principles of brotherly love, relief and truth, which assists the rule that you simply do onto others when you would wish these to do onto you.

Traditionally men are only admitted into Freemasonry. The reason on why women are excluded is difficult to explain.

Freemasons today meet much less operative but rather symbolic Masons. The traditions and structure of modern day Freemasonry is based on stonemasons who built churches, abbeys, and cathedrals of medieval times. In those days, Masonic guilds were formed like unions of today to collectively barter for higher payments, and also to preserve their building know-how. The culture of that time did not permit women to be members because they were regarded as the weaker sex who could not endure the hardships of construction. Today, the mainstream Grand Lodges wish to adhere to ancient landmarks of the Craft that they can consider unchangeable because this alters the dwelling of freemasonry; hence, women remain not admitted.

However there are lots of non-mainstream Masonic orders that admit both women and men, or exclusively for women only. Co-Freemasonry was founded in France throughout the late-nineteenth century which admitted both men and women. It is the first international Masonic order and has members in 60 different countries today. Most mainstream Grand Lodges do not recognise Co-Freemasonry, so there is no interaction from lodges under their jurisdiction. However, the Grand Orient of France (a Grand Lodge in France) and other Masonic bodies in the Continental European tradition now fully recognize Co-Freemasonry and women's Freemasonry.

On the list of exclusive female orders regarding Freemasonry will be the Order of the Eastern Star, the Order of the Amaranth, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Social Order of Beauceant, the Daughters of the Nile, the Order of Women Freemasons, along with the Honorable Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons.

The status of women in society has changed comprehensively in recent times. As a consequence of tradition barring women from like a Mason doesn't invariably mean that they should be prevented from doing this forever especially when we understand their participation in a lot of streams of contemporary society. Will tradition always prevail over their existence and endeavors? At this time, it may be sacrilege, too radical and unacceptable to suggest to mainstream Grand Lodges to just accept women as members.

Masonic teachings promote personal growth of character, and encourage Freemasons to become better citizens in the community. Freemasonry teaches concern for others, care for the less fortunate, and help for people in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness or any other adversity. No matter whether the members are women or men, they are charitable in thought, word, and deed. Freemasons have a proud record of caring for people in need, no matter class or creed, discharging what they consider to be their responsibility to humanity.
